Abu Dhabi, UAE. 22 December 2009: Five local and international charities have been brought on as partners for January’s Saadiyat Beach Classic, a top-tier international charity golf tournament hosted by golfing legend Gary Player. The event is being staged to officially mark the launch of the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club – the Arabian Gulf’s first and only beach-front course.
The five charities, according to Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), the Abu Dhabi-based master developer of Saadiyat Island and its Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, are: Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care, Special Needs and Minors’ Affairs; Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation; Red Crescent UAE; Future Centre for Special Needs; and the Gary Player Foundation. The Saadiyat Beach Classic, which will attract a host of celebrities and golfing professionals, takes place 27-28th January 2010 and is the first international tournament to be held on the Championship-ready Saadiyat Beach Golf Club.“The Saadiyat Beach Classic is an important event, both in terms of launching Abu Dhabi’s latest golfing project to the world and in bringing together professional golfers, celebrities and leading businessmen to recognise and support key charity initiatives,” said Ahmed Hussein, Chief Operating Officer of TDIC and Deputy Director General of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA). “Money raised as part of this first-of-its-kind event will go a long way to helping those who need it most.”
Funds for the charities are being raised as part of a black tie gala dinner, which will host silent and open auctions for more than 50 big-ticket items donated by corporate sponsors. Held on Saadiyat Beach Classic’s final day, the 200-person evening extravaganza - boasting an impressive entertainment line-up and some of the biggest names from the sport and entertainment worlds - will take place on Saadiyat Island. For those wanting to battle it out on Saadiyat Beach Golf Club’s lush fairways and greens with a major celebrity or top international golfer as a partner, TDIC will be auctioning places in the 18-hole Pro-Am tournament. In addition for those wishing to hone their skills before they take to the fairways, Player - indisputably one of the greatest international golfers of all time and designer of Saadiyat Beach Golf Club – will host his highly anticipated golf clinic.Saadiyat Beach Golf Club is situated on Saadiyat Island, the global leisure, residential and cultural destination under development just 500 metres offshore Abu Dhabi city.Managed by Troon Golf, the world’s largest golf management company, Saadiyat Beach Golf Club is the latest championship-ready golf destination in Abu Dhabi and will have its soft opening in December 2009.
