DUBAI CREEK MEN’S AMATEUR OPEN 2010

James Paul Martin was crowned champion of Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club’s Men’s Amateur Open 2010 sponsored by Omega on Saturday 9th January. The talented youngster on holiday all the way from Spain where he plays at San Roque Golf Club off plus two, scored gross 78 & 70 to total 148, plus 6 over par and win by a clear three shots from the field.

The second round score of one under par 70, was an outstanding performance playing in a strong wind that made the scoring average far higher for the majority of the field compared to the first day.

After a hot start scoring 3 under par for his first 11 holes during the final round Martin bogeyed holes 15 & 16 but safely finished with two pars to set the clubhouse target, that was never caught by the last four groups. Martin also faces a new dilemma as catching a flight back to Spain the very night of his Championship win and has been invited back by Omega to take part in the Dubai Desert Classic Pro-Am on Wed 3rd February. Hopefully he will be able to get back over for a superb opportunity and experience courtesy of Omega.

Martin commented, “It has been an amazing few days and thank you to Omega for sponsoring this event. The course was in awesome condition and Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club is a superb place to come and play golf.”

Pontus Fredriksson (EGC) made his own comeback scoring gross 79 & 72, totaling 151, + 9 over par to leapfrog the overnight leaders to finish alone in second place.

Finishing in 3rd place was six time past champion and joint overnight leader Vikram Judge (DCGYC) with a total of gross 154 (73 & 81).

In 4th place by virtue of the better last 18 holes from four other players was Joel Neale (EGC) with a total of gross 156 (79 & 77). Dino Varkey (DCGYC) also by his better last 18 holes finished in 5th place with his total of gross 156 (76 & 80).

Ahdip Shankar (DCGYC) won the overall net prize with two consistent scores of net 72 & 71, totalling 143 from Suhail Al Marzouqi (EGC) who finished net runner up with a total of 145 (73 & 72). Third place in the net division by virtue of his better last 18 holes was Aditya Judge (DCGYC) on net 149 (75 & 74).
