Mirza, who won the Omega Dubai Desert Classic qualifier on Sunday, carded a gross 156 to finish tied fourth at Dubai CreekGolf and Yacht Club and followed it with a brilliant second-place finish in the Auriga Masters — part of the UAE PGA Patrons Cup — at the Els Club.

With these excellent showing in the fifth and sixthevent of the Order of Merit, the 28-year-old Dubai Creek golfer has taken hispoints tally to 82.20, ahead of his fellow club members Vikram Judge (74) andPaul King (61.50). In fact, thefirst six places on the EGF Order of Merit are occupied by golfers from theDubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club.

The Dubai Creek Men’s Open featured a close contestbefore J.P. Martin, an overseas player, walked away with the honours on a gross36-hole total of 148, three shots ahead of P. Fredriksson and six off seasonedJudge.

Top UAE national golfer Khalid Yousuf held sway atthe Auriga Masters with rounds of 75 and 76 to finish on top after a countbackwith Mirza, who carded a back-to-back gross 75. Paul King took the third placeon a gross 150.

Khalid is placed eighth on the EGF Order of Merit with42.50 points, not far behind the Musharrekh brothers — Abdullah (55) and Ahmed(53.25). The next event of the
Order of Merit is the Emirates Men's Open that will be played on February 12
and 13.

Saeed Albudoor, general manager of the Emirates Golf Federation, congratulated Mirza on winning the Dubai Desert Classic and topping the Order of Merit of table.

“He looks in good form and I wish all the best. With the Order of Merit table wearing a new look after every event, it’sdifficult to predict who will be the eventual winner, but it seems the race for
the title is heading for a close finish. And that’s a good reflection on the intensity of the competition in each Order of Merit of event.”
