DUBAI — The Al Musharrekh brothers produced some solid golf to dominate the UAE Nationals Monthly Medal tournament at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club.
Young Hassan upstaged big names in the field to winthe overall gross title with a tidy five-over-par 76 while his elder brotherAhmed reigned supreme in Division One, taking the honours with a net 81. Both Hassan and Ahmed couldn’t have asked for abetter preparation in the run up to next week’s 14th GCCChampionship in Qatar where they will be representing the UAE squad along withothers. Fast-improving Hassan could have done even betterin the gross division, but a triple bogey on the closing hole marred hisotherwise a very consistent round. Still, it was good enough to beat hisnearest challenger Saeed Malik by a good three strokes. Salem bin Dasmalfinished third on a gross 87. Ahmed Al Musharrekh, who recently featured in theAbu Dhabi Golf Championship, held sway in Division One while Hassan Alqemzi heldthe centre-stage in Division B, winning the title with a net 76. Shawqi Sajwaniwalked away with the Division C title with a net 79. Once again the monthly medal, organised by theEmirates Golf Federation, drew a good response with almost all the leading UAEnational players turning up the event. “I thank all the players for making theevent a great success,” said Saeed Albudoor, general manager of the EGF. “I am, in particular, pleased with the rapidimprovement shown by Hassan in the recent times. He played a great round, wellbelow his handicap despite getting into trouble on the last hole. “I am sure this performance will hold him in goodstead when he travels to Qatar with the UAE team next week.
